TNA and Spike TV issued a press release tonight officially announcing a new three-year TV deal for Impact to air on Spike TV. The renewed partnership begins October 1 and extends through October 2012.
TNA will also be given ten "special edition" shows that will last one hour and highlight TNA personalities as well as past matches. It sounds like the Vintage show they debuted in the U.K. four months ago. The deal doesn't call for a standalone second show to complement Impact.
TNA president Dixie Carter talked about "tremendous success and record ratings" the company has achieved on Spike TV.
The press release included ratings information to back up Spike's decision to renew their deal with TNA and sign the promotion for another three years. Most of the numbers were exaggerated compared to the ratings information we track on a weekly basis.
The press release claims TNA averaged over 1.80 million viewers per episode in the second quarter of 2009 (April - June). Actual average was 1.64 million viewers. Only two out of 12 episodes in the second quarter averaged more than 1.80 million viewers.
Spike also claims the second quarter 2009 was TNA's most-watched quarter ever on Spike. Actual numbers we track indicates first quarter 2009 was TNA's most-watched ever with an average of 1.71 million viewers compared to 1.64 million in the second quarter.
Tazz has also replaced Don West and join Tenay on commentary. West was promoted to head the merchandising dept.
