WWF/E's biggest mistake was trying to use WCW talent as "faces" and WWF/E talent as the "heels."
That my friends is the very definition of asinine. When McMahon purchased WCW, I laid out this plan to my wife/fiance, who much to my chagrin, half listened and said, "Like it matters what you would do!" While true, it was still uncalled for. But I digress.
Once Shane and Vince had their moment at the end of RAW/Nitro, I would have kept the brands separate. I would have used the lesser viewed programs such as Velocity and Heat as well as WWE.com to feature WCW talent. Keeping the WCW nameplate and titles, doing business as usual. On WWF/E programing I would have continued to build on the rocky and adversarial relationship between Vince and Shane. Ultimately leading to a Title Unification Wrestlemania. European vs Cruiserweight, US vs IC, Tag Titles, WWF Champ SCSA vs WCW Champ Goldberg... And then mix in a Rock vs Booker T, A WWF Diva Vs WCW Broads. You know really make it an event to remember.
You can say everything's easier in hindsight, but this was, as stated before, my first thought when it was announced that WWF purchased WCW.

How about making more of an effort to buyout the bigger WCW stars' contracts and get them on board. Booker T is fine but he's hardly what that company was built on. DDP, sort of ruined him from the getgo with the stalker bs. DDP is the perfect example of WWF really not having a clue what to do with the few "stars" they got from the deal. They could of strung out the ECW part, maybe made it seem they could side with either WWF or WCW until they ultimately pick one over the other during a PPV main event. What I wouldn't do is have WWF's biggest star (Stone Cold) join the shitly name "Alliance" and turn into a fucking retard. Hogan, Hall, Nash, Sting, Goldberg, Bischoff, Flair all ended up working for Vince, even just two of those mentioned would have made the invasion seem more legit. |

They definitely should have put more effort into getting more of the big talents, especially considering how little they paid for WCW. However, It was the original plan as far as I know to keep the brands very separate and to have a different program for WCW, but they simply could not get a worthwhile time slot for the show. Maybe they could have if they had names like Goldberg, Hogan and Sting to sell it to the network.
You also have to consider how manageable the full WCW locker room would have been in that kind of situation, considering the state it was in by that time. |

Keep in mind that the only WCW star that didn't come over was Sting. Booker just happened to be the one that stuck.
With most "stars" having worked for WWF in the past, I believe they would be on board if there was a solid plan.
As far as the network goes, to have wcw on the Heat and Velocity timeslots, its my belief that the numbers and advertising would have increased enough to have a viable pitch to a better network. Hell at the time TNN was looking for a wrestling product to replace ECW, officials were happy with the programing just not with the management.
My pitch works in reality, it deals with properties already owned by WWF, they just had to execute, Vince got nervous feeling that WCW wasn't a strong enough nameplate to hold its audience on a different night and channel. This was a case of ego outshining logic. |

| I did'nt think the whole thing was that bad. I really think that they could have done some bigger things if guys like HHH, Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero werent dead....oops, I mean injured. And if they kept the brands seperate, then we would have never gotten the klassic matchup of Kane and Undertaker vs Kronik. |
